150 YEARS & COUNTING
(150 years of continuous worship at St. Thomas')
To celebrate 150 years of continuous worship at St. Thomas' Church we will be holding a week long series of events during the Island's National Week (Tynwald Week 3rd to 8th July 2022).

St. Thomas' church was first opened in 1849 but because of a dispute between the then bishop of Sodor and Man and the vicar of the parish of Braddan about who had the right to appoint the new vicar for St. Thomas' the church was closed by the bishop in December 1867. When the dispute was finally resolved, in favour of the vicar of Braddan, St. Thomas' was reopened by the bishop on Saturday 29th June 1872. It would appear that the bishop remained unhappy with the result and a report in the Isle of Man Times describing the reopening, stated that, "...The bishop hurried through the ceremony as quickly as possible, and the whole affair occupied only 18 minutes".

150 years later and St. Thomas' is still open and active in the heart of Douglas and we look forward to the next 150 years. So, please come along and join us for the various activities and events we have planned or just to have a look at our magnificent Nicholson Murals, beautiful stained glass windows, the Archibald Knox designed War Memorial and much more. You'll also be able to enjoy our renowned, delicious home made cakes and hospitality.
