Proposed move of The Churches Bookshop to St. Thomas' Church.
After all the hard work which has been put in to getting this project completed we are very pleased to announce that The Churches Bookshop reopened in St Thomas' at 1.00pm on Tuesday 8th June 2021. We are delighted to welcome them into St Thomas' and wish them every success in their work.
In mid 2020 The Churches Bookshop was advised that it would have to move out of its current premises at The Promenade Methodist Church because of works to be carried out by the M.U.A. early in 2021. The Lower Vestry at St. Thomas' Church was identified as a suitable alternative temporary venue.
Approval for a change of use was sought from the Planning and Registered Buildings Departments in the autumn of 2020. Approval was granted towards the end of October 2020. (See Documents 1 & 2 below)
Further application was made requesting approval, on the grounds of health and safety, to attach bookshelves to the walls of the vestry. This approval was granted early in 2021. (See Documents 3 & 4 above)
Having received these approvals a faculty is being sought in order to complete the move. In order to comply with the lengthy and complex 'Faculty Jurisdiction Rules (Isle of Man) 2016', St. Thomas' Church has begun the process of obtaining the necessary faculty. The Diocesan Advisory Committee met on Feb 12th 2021 and on 5th March 2021 gave 'Notification of Advice' Form 2 Rule 4.6. (See Document 8 above)
As part of the faculty process a Public Notification Form 4 (Rule 6.2) has been pinned to the church door and published here on this website. This notification will be available for 28 days until Monday 5th April 2021. (See documents 5, 6 & 7 above).
On completion of the 28 day notice period (5th April 2021) Form 3 (Rule 5.3) Application for Faculty will be submitted to the Consistory Court of the Diocese of Sodor and Man.
Anyone who has an objection to the Churches Bookshop moving from its current premises in The Promenade Methodist Church to the Lower Vestry at St. Thomas' Church should write to, The Diocesan Registrar, Sodor and Man Registry, Stamford House, Piccadilly, York, YO1 9PP so that the registrar receives the letter not later than 5th April 2021. Any objection letter MUST include your name, address and state whether you are a resident in the parish of St. Thomas' or are on the electoral roll of the church or have any other basis on which you have an interest in this matter.
Further details of the progress of this saga will be posted here as and when they become available.
